People are different
You know what I want to think of myself?
As a human being.
Because, I mean I don't want to be like "As Confucius say," but under the sky, under the heavens...
... there is but one family.
It just so happens that... people are different!

I am Bruce Lee (2011)
I am Bruce Lee (2011) is a made for TV documentary about one of the most iconic symbols in popular culture.
Till this day Bruce Lee's legacy lives on, moving from generation to generation through his work but also his way of life.
A man of many trades, the Asian-American film star was not only an actor, but a screenwriter, producer, teacher and philosopher - among other things. With so many different backgrounds and skills, its only natural his influence reached all kinds of people, in different regions and cultures and in all kinds of ways. That's only part of what this documentary comes to show...
I would advise anyone (and I mean anyone) to watch this... You might take something useful out of it, even if at first glance you think Bruce Lee doesn't have nothing to add to your life (which highly doubt it).

Norman (2010)
I remember thinking to myself: what lead me to see this movie?. As I made my selection of the day, I took some time to try and recap the reasons behind my interest. And then, after watching it, it hit me. Probably the trailer. Minutes later, I checked if I had shared it before... and there it was.
My reaction: "It gave me goosebumps"... a clear sign that I was expecting something great.
One thing is for sure, I was definitely not expecting the final outcome...

Norman (2010) It's not an easy movie to handle. It's one of the most dark and twisted I've seen recently.
The film takes its name from the lead character, a 18 year old kid with a great sense of awareness and responsibility - to a certain extent - that lives with his terminal ill Dad. He has a cancer on his stomach and chooses not to do anything about it, much to his son's dismay. We soon find out that his Father still struggles with the loss of his wife, which creates the idea that he has given up on life with hopes of a after-life re-encounter (this is me giving space to my interpretation).
Obviously Norman doesn't realize this and truth be told, how can he? Regardless of your age, maturity, life experience and what not... it is very difficult to accept such an attitude, specially coming from a father. This - among with his Mother's passing - lead Norman to feel like a misfit over life's occurrences but also for his line of thinking.
As you can see, this is only part of the setup and it's already very disturbing.
You would assume you want to sympathize with the main character, but I felt it was really had... Trying to think about it clearly, I have to say Dan Bryd did a great role. Probably wouldn't get anyone better to play such a awkward and damaged boy, however, in this film Richard Jenkins is the one to praise the most. The guy is just phenomenal as an actor, providing most of Norman's best scenes.
Another key element is the soundtrack composed by Andrew Bird, which is beautiful and fits the entire narrative. Just makes it so much easier to watch...

London 2012
They started off big and ended up even bigger! The London games opening and closing ceremony showed the world what Great Britain is all about, by showing – almost in a time-line fashion - many cultural references. It’s incredible how much influence GB had in our everyday life and even thought it felt like it was made by British for British, it was still amazing to watch.
Obviously what happened “in-between” did justice to the epic efforts of the host city. The athletes performances were outstanding as we saw many world-records getting beaten, personal bests as well…All this happening in great – and care free – surroundings. Transports were better than ever, safety was no issue and people just seemed to be in a very uplifting mood.

So now what? How will life unfold after the London games?
Things won’t seem so exciting… I can tell you that! But life moves on and we just need to make sure to take full advantage of the many commodities the games have brought the city of London. Now, the only thing we can do is enjoy the Paralympics and wait for the beginning of other sporting seasons to try and fill in the void space left by the greatest sporting show on Earth!

Ted (2012)
When it comes down to talking about Ted (2012) there’s one thing I can say without taking much risk of failing and that is: If you are a Family Guy fan, then you are likely to enjoy this movie.
It's quite obvious why I say this if you look at who the director of this feature is…
Seth MacFarlane, the creator of the animated show, is the man behind the project, bringing some friends from the show into his movie. Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild – along with Seth himself – took care of the script, while the likes of Mila Kunis, Alex Borstein and Patrick Warburton – known for lending their voices to some of the characters – get to show their acting skills.
But in the end, it all comes down to two characters.
John Bennett portrayed by Mark Wahlberg – in another great comedic effort – and his teddy bear, Ted, to whom Seth MacFarlane gives his voice to. The chemistry is good, but the recurrent gags – such as parody/spoof , comedy inspiration and influences, fantasy moments and flashbacks – are the elements that really make Ted greatly enjoyable. With it’s silly humor, great cameos and sometimes inappropriate lines, Ted is well deserving of the good reviews it has received so far, however, I believe that the iMDB score is slightly over the top. A solid 7 would do…

Guaranteed to have a good time!

Brazil in the Olympics - Football
On paper they have the best team of the tournament, hands down! No argue possible.
But that alone is not enough. You need to be able to prove it on the pitch. Spain can easily testify to that, as they were considered to be one of the favorites for the podium, but were eliminated by -what we would call - average teams.
Nonetheless, Brazil has been able to show a bit of their "Samba flair" by winning their first two matches in great style. Neymar is obviously on the spotlight and as expected, he is dealing well with the pressures of being one of the finest footballers on the planet - and probably the best of the tournament - and a leader for his country. But like I said, in paper they have a great team... with names that reach out to the likes of Oscar, Hulk, Marcelo... and of course Alexandre Pato.
I recently spoke to him in London (check out the scenery in this venue called "The Cube") and he told me about his expectations for London 2012 and Brazil's quest for gold, a medal that is still to be conquered by the 5-time World Cup Champions.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Wow!
That pretty much says it all, wouldn't you agree?
The Dark Knight Rises (2012) was announced as the final instalment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, after putting a lot of thought whether he would do it or not. In the end, he cave in... Not to popular demand, but to his - and his brother Jonathan's - idea of a perfect ending to one of the biggest blockbuster sagas in recent years.
The Dark Knight (2008) was a tough gig to follow up, thus the hesitation in prolonging the series, but let me assure you... this movie will not be a disappointment.
I have to say, even thought I'm highly impressed with the more recent versions I still reside as a big fan of Tim Burton's portrayal of the Dark Knight... in every single aspect. The 1989 Batman had a great opening sequence (not really relevant, but something I loved), Danny Elfman's main theme and the overall soundtrack was sublime, the way how Gotham city was stylized and put into life was incredibly creative, Burton's whole direction was amazing, in fact, I goes as far as saying that this project literally could not have had a better director. And the cast...
Well...
(Joker - Jack Nicholson | Batman - Michael Keaton)
With all due respect to Heath Leadger's magnificent performance, I have to say I much rather see Mr. Jack Nicholson as The Joker, even conceding the fact that their approaches are quite different from one another. I'm a bigger fan of Nicholson's mannerisms and his dark humour (the movie has such great lines). For some this can be very subjective. Some can argue the characters are based in different takes from the comic books, but when it comes down to picking one, I don't hesitate at all.
The same goes to Michael Keaton's Batman, who takes the first spot in the podium over the likes of Christian Bale, Val Kilmer or George Clooney. A lot of you might not even know this, but Michael Keaton's casting was highly criticized because of his comedic background, including Burton's other feature Beetle Juice (1988). Critics and audience felt like Keaton wouldn't provide a serious and dark element, much needed for the "Caped Crusader", but soon enough they were proven wrong and Keaton was praised by many.
Having said this, even with such "competition" - which in fact shouldn't be considered that way since they only increase Batman's popularity - Nolan's take is quite modern/contemporary, having crossed the fictional border into a more human and realistic territory... and all with such quality. Every now and then comes a trilogy which all three movies are regarded in the same level. This is one of those rare examples...
So what to say about The Dark Knight Rises?
It doesn't center as much on the "Bats" but around every other character around him and his precious city of Gotham. Bruce Wayne is definitely in focus, having to face an adversary like never before (even thought Joker is the most popular, Bane was by far his biggest challenge in the comic books) and Anne Hathaway is unbelievably convincing as Cat-Woman. I had my doubts about her, but was converted into a believer. She is fierceful, sexy, witty and knows how to lay some smackdown.
I strongly feel that Nolan could easily continue his work with the DC Comics hero with the same high consistency the previous ones had, but can't really judge him on his decision. We can only thank him for delivering an epic finale that will resonate for ages. I'm pretty sure these features will go down in cinema history. Be sure to watch it - and if you have access to an IMAX theatre, watch it there. It's worth the extra money.
